What that doesn't change
- We recommend a history check as one step of a careful purchase, not a replacement for an inspection.
- We say plainly when a report is unlikely to help, for example for a car that has only been registered in Canada.
- We also point you to free checks (NICB VINCheck and the government recall lookups) before you pay for anything.
